What We Offer

Summary

City of Hope is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) - Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and one of the nation’s best cancer hospitals. In addition to providing outstanding cancer treatment and care to our patients, City of Hope also houses a renowned bench-to-bedside research institute that emphasizes both basic and translational biomedical research. We have 130+ principal investigators working toward the treatments and prevention of cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS. In 2018, City of Hope is among the top 4 institutes in California (along with Stanford, UCSF and UCLA) receiving grant and contract awards from NCI. Our investigators contribute to more than 500 publications annually in top journals that include Nature, Cell, Cancer Cell, Nature Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine and more. In 1994, a group of principal investigators at City of Hope founded the Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences. The mission of the school is to foster an academically stimulating, collaborative and diverse environment to train the next generation scientists, professors and industry leaders. Since the inaugural class of four doctoral students in 1994, the doctoral program has steadily grown to over 90 students. Many of our graduates are now holding outstanding positions in both academia and in the industry.
